UM Projet
Combining a background in branding with his passion for furniture design, François founded UM Project in 2004 as a fusion between artisanship and consultancy. Before UM Project, François worked for global branding and identity firms including Zürich-based Zintztmeyer & Lux and Interbrand in New York. UM Project was born from François' desire to get his hands dirty and his observation that the market was craving more personal, tangible products and experiences beyond the vague promise of brands. UM stands for Users and Makers, because furniture conveys the passion of its makers as it is brought to life by users. Food, clothing and music offer similar connections. François’ work borrows cues from industry and craft, creating pieces that transcend the qualities of both the handmade and the mass-produced. François also looks to traditional techniques and archetypes, reinterpreting them for the modern eye.
